John is a graduate of the Loomis Institute, Windsor, CT and the American Academy, McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, New York City.
He is a Trustee of Mount Ida College, Newton, MA, where he received an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree. He also serves as Trustee of the National Funeral Service Foundation. John is a Director of the Connecticut Council for Hospice & Palliative Care, Director/Treasurer of Mary’s Place, A Center for Grieving Children & Families, Chairman of the Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Trustee for the Friends of Northwest Park in Windsor, and is a member of both the Windsor and Avon Chambers of Commerce. He serves on the Board of Directors for Avon’s Dollars for Scholars program.
John is a Past President of National Funeral Directors Association, Past President of the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association, Past Chairman of the Funeral & Memorial Information Council and Past Chairman Past President of the NSM Insurance Company.
Past Exalted Ruler of Windsor Lodge #2060 BPOE, he is also a Past President of Windsor Kiwanis Club, and an endowment member of NRA. John is also Chairman of the Board of Mary’s Place, Vice President of Avon Dollars for Scholars and Chairman Elect of the Funeral Service Foundation.
Married to Linda (Smith) Carmon, John is the father of four sons: Jay and his wife Christina; Scott and his wife Hilary and granddaughter Hannah; Matthew; and Adam and his wife Nicole. John and Linda attend Valley Community Baptist Church in Avon, Connecticut.
Awards:
John has received the YMCA Distinguished Service Award (1988), the YMCA Patron of Youth Award (1989), and the Windsor Chamber of Commerce Jerry Hallas Award (1992). He has also received Community Service Awards from the Windsor Grange (1993), AME Zion Church (1993), and the Boy Scouts of America (1994). In 1995, the Town of Windsor Humanitarian Award was presented to John, as well as the Windsor Bridge Builder Award.
Interests:
Running, cycling (bike and motorcycle), swimming, hunting, downhill and cross-country skiing.
