Michael Joseph Young Reis, 41, of Hartford and formerly of Bloomfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, (January 7, 2014) at his home. Born in Hartford on February 3, 1972, son of Jose Carlos Reis of Hartford and Karen Sue Young of East Windsor, he was raised in Barry Circle in Bloomfield and was a graduate of Bloomfield High School, Class of 1991. Michael worked in construction for many years with the Dunn-Rite Construction Company and most recently he had been working at Home Depot. As a child growing up, Michael had a natural attraction to the outdoors and animals. He loved building forts in the woods and often took in wild animals as pets including pigeons, squirrels, snakes, ducks and a raccoon. He loved cars and motorcycles and had also studied martial arts as a young man. Most of all, Michael will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends. He never forgot anyone's birthday or anniversary and he would often call his family and friends to remind them to call others and wish them well on their special day. Besides his parents, he leaves two sisters, Elizabeth Reis of Manchester and Michelle Papapietro and her husband James, Jr. of Windsor Locks; two nephews, Dylan Houle and James "Jimmy" Papapietro, III; a niece, Ashley Papapietro; a paternal uncle, Joao A.R. Reis and his wife Ana of Hartford and Portugal; and five maternal aunts, Donna DiMaio of Vernon, Annette Ritter of East Hartford, Becky Savage of Canada, Tina Laverty of East Hartford, and Tammy Fitch of Hebron; five close cousins, James DiMaio, Joseph Young, Tania Reis, Joana Reis, and Melanie Ritter; a special family friend, Sharon Twining of Manchester & Jennifer Richard Smith of TX; and five of his close friends, John Otero, Kevin Wages, Johnny Richard, and Billy Scott. His family will receive friends on Sunday, January 12, 2-5 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13, 10 a.m., in the chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Michael Reis Memorial Fund, c/o Windsor Federal Savings, 250 Broad St., Windsor, CT 06095.
