Obituary

Earl F. Moffatt, 89, of Windsor, beloved husband of Maryann (Fago) Moffatt, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 6, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Hartford to the late Francis and Frances (Frank) Moffatt, he has been a Windsor resident for most of his life and a member of St. Gabriel Church. Earl served his country proudly as an Instructor and Boatswain Mate 1/C with the US Navy during WWII. He was a sergeant with the Hartford Police Dept for 20 years and was the commanding officer of the K-9 Corps, started in 1967 as the first K-9 unit in New England. Earl enjoyed training dogs and was the original trainer and one of the first directors for the FIDELCO Guide Dog Foundation which trains and supplies guide dogs for the blind. After his retirement from the police department, Earl ran Moffatt's K-9 Training in Windsor and was the owner and manager of Windsor Center Restaurant for 8 years. He served as the Assistant Security Director for Trinity College and as the Chief of Security for Rockville High School before his retirement in 2001. Earl loved music and enjoyed playing piano as well as writing his own songs and poems. An exceptional and multi-talented man, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him and for his many contributions to his country and community. Besides his wife Maryann of Windsor, he is survived by his sons Gary Moffatt of Windsor, and Gregg Moffatt and his wife Valerie of South Windsor; his daughters Lynn Vasseur and her husband Paul of Manchester, and Janet Moffatt of Vernon; his step-sons, Stanley Jacobs and his wife Ping of Los Angeles, CA; William Jacobs of Windsor, and Douglas Jacobs and his wife Maria of New Britain; his step-daughter and caretaker Susan Register and her husband Michael of Windsor; his grandchildren, Damien, Justin, James, Julie, Frankie, Gregg Jr., Patrick and Amanda; and his great-grandchildren Jazzeah and Jeremiah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, May 15 at St. Gabriel's Church, 379 Broad St. Windsor followed by burial with military honors at Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 14 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor.
