Obituary

Richard B. Tustin, 81, of Windsor, beloved husband of Margaret (Rose) Tustin passed away at home Friday (May 11, 2012) after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. Born in Windsor, son of the late Edith (Mellen) Tustin and William J. Tustin he was a Windsor resident for most of his life. Rich graduated from John Fitch High School, University of Connecticut with a BS Degree and the University of Hartford with a Masters Degree in Education. He loved teaching 8th grade science in South Windsor for many years. He also worked part time at the Windsor Manufacturing for many years. Rich served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Connecticut Army National Guard. A lifelong entrepreneur he enjoyed raising pigs, farming, construction/excavation, metal recycling and formed a real estate company, Wallace Tustin Tetreault in South Windsor. He was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and loved giving of himself tirelessly to others. He had a special passion to help people who were physically challenged or disabled and served as president of the Windsor Independent Living Association (WILA) from 1979-1983. He enjoyed rebuilding his Ford Model "AA" Truck that he bought at the age of 16 and was a member of the Model A Ford Club of Connecticut (MAFCC) in Broad Brook. Richard and his wife Margaret enjoyed traveling to interesting places all over the world. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Timothy B. Tustin and his partner Donald Drake, both of Windsor; Daniel Tustin of Bloomfield; and grandchildren, Kelsey and Nicholas Tustin whom he adored and their mother Judith Tustin of Suffield. He also leaves his dear sister, Ruth (Tustin) Wilbur of Windsor; and many loving relatives, friends, neighbors and associates. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and George Tustin. The family would like to express a special thank you to the VNA Healthcare and the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 17, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor with the Rev. John Gerlach officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 16, from 4-7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Healthcare, 103 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105 or a charity of the donor's choice.
