Manuel E. Falcon, 74, of Hartford, passed away on Sunday, (December 9, 2012) at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Lima, Peru on June 30, 1938, son of the late Manuel E. Falcon and Aurea (Canales) Falcon, he had lived in Peru before moving to Hartford with his family in 1976. Manuel worked as an engineer in the mining industry in Peru for many years. After moving to the United States, he started working as a mechanic and later went back to school and graduated from the University of Hartford with a degree in engineering. After his graduation, he took a position at Pratt & Whitney as an engineer and later worked at Hamilton Standard. He later decided to pursue his love of math and solving complex equations and again took classes to earn a teacher's certificate in Connecticut. Manuel then taught mathematics, physics, and science classes in the Hartford Public Schools including Hartford Public High School and Bulkeley High School. In later years, he also assisted people with vacations and trips through a travel agency that he operated out of his home. In his spare time, he enjoyed socializing with his family and friends, watching football, listening to music and playing his guitar, and reading. He leaves a son, Manuel A. Falcon and his wife Arleen of Ocala, FL; three daughters, Cecilia P. Gschwind and her husband Douglas of Harrison, NY, Carola M. Susanin and her husband David of Wethersfield, and Rosa M. Thigpen and her husband Michael of Wethersfield; his children's mother, Margarita Herrera of Hartford; a brother, German Falcon and his wife Angelica of Wethersfield; a sister, Irene Castañeda of Peru; six grandchildren, Kevin Susanin, Xavier Thigpen, Lucas Gschwind, Abigail Gschwind, Michael Thigpen, and Rosa Thigpen. His family will receive friends on Thursday, December 13, 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., at St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St., Hartford. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech. Ctr., Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
