Chin-Yeang "C.Y." Lim, 79, husband of the late Clara Pui-Ping (Chan) Lim, died peacefully at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield MA on Friday, December 7, 2012 after a sudden and brief illness. Born and raised in Penang, Malaysia C.Y. attended Chung Chi College in Hong Kong where he graduated in 1959. C.Y. came to the United States in 1960 for post-graduate studies at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and later at Syracuse University in New York, where both he and wife, Clara received Ph.D.'s in Mathematics in 1970. C.Y. lived most of his life in Longmeadow, MA as a professor of mathematics and computer sciences at College of our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee, MA and Western New England College in Springfield, MA. C.Y. was an incredibly dedicated teacher and generous man, often extending his office hours and inviting his students to his house for extra help as well as picnics. C.Y. retired in 1998 after 27 years, continuing his dedication to helping and educating others, he volunteered at various local agencies to assimilate immigrants. He helped people with English studies, citizenship test preparation, and translation services. C.Y. was an avid learner of languages, not only with computer languages but spoken languages German and Spanish. Since 1999, C.Y. and wife of 46 years Clara lived in Suffield, with their only child, daughter Janet Lim Werenski and her husband Andrew. C.Y. took great pride and joy in his role as a grandfather and caregiver for his two grandsons in their early years. C.Y. always had great rapport with children of all ages, and was often found playing on the floor with children before engaging with adults. C.Y. is predeceased by wife Clara Pui-Ping Lim; and is survived by his daughter, Janet Lim Werenski and husband Andrew; beloved grandsons, Jason and Aidan of Suffield; brothers Chin-Teng Lim, Seng Keat Khoo, Chin Huat Lim, and sister Swee Gim Lim. The family welcomes friends to a celebration of life gathering to be held on Sunday, December 16th from 2pm – 4:30pm at the family home in Suffield CT.
