Charles J. Mangarella, 89, of Avon, loving husband of the late Concetta C. Mangarella, passed away on Monday (December 17, 2012). Born in Hartford on December 18, 1922, he was the son of the late Carmelo and Vincenza (Zappulla) Mangarella. Charles lived in West Hartford and Wethersfield before moving to Avon. During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Midway and the U.S.S. Birmingham. As a tool & die maker, he was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and was a member of UAW Union. Working for Shearson Lehman Bros. and formerly Buell Securities as a licensed stockbroker was not only a profession but also a hobby. After retirement, he and Concetta moved to Florida where he spent time by the water. He was a fan of the New York Giants, gardening, spending time at the ocean and especially his wife's cooking. His family will remember him for his love of music, singing and dancing. He leaves his children, Charles J. Mangarella and his wife Mary of Sandy Hook, Susan Massirio and her husband Gene of Bloomfield and Angela Mazur and her husband David of Avon; five grandchildren he adored, Michael and Nicole Mangarella, Mark Massirio, Lindsay Donlin and Brian D'Agostino; three great grandchildren, Jacob, Erin and Juliana. Besides his wife, his daughter, whom he and his wife lovingly cared for, Jane D'Agostino, his sister, Lucy Lewandowski, and his faithful canine friend, Skipper, all predeceased him. His family will receive friends Friday, December 21, 6-9 p.m. at Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, December 22 at 9:15 a.m. to process to Church of St. Ann, 289 Arch Road for A Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Memorial donations, in memory of Charles', may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
