Thomas G. Pignone, 88, of Windsor, beloved husband of Lillian (Konior) Pignone passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford, son of the late Gabriele and Lucia (Bombeto) Pignone, he grew up in Bloomfield, moving to Windsor in 1955. Tom served in the US Army during World War II and was employed for many years as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the Public Works Department for the Town of Windsor. He was a forty-eight year member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief from 1986 – 1991. Tom was awarded by the Exchange Club of Windsor, the Book of Golden Deeds award for exemplary service to the citizens of Windsor in 1983. Tom was in charge of the former Ambulance Division of the Fire Department and also was an ambulance driver. He was an avid R.V. camper and enjoyed water skiing, boating, and gardening. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel Church in Windsor. Besides his wife of 66 years, he leaves a son Kenneth Pignone and his wife Kim of West Simsbury; a daughter Gayle A. Pignone of East Granby; his beloved grandson and best friend Kenneth T. Pignone, Jr. of Windsor; a brother Fred Pignone and his wife Lillian of Simsbury; and a sister Gloria Cole of Florida. He was predeceased by a brother and sisters, Catherine Anderson, Edward Pignone, Mary Anne Ferrigno, and Margaret Zambrella. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 7th, 9:15 AM from the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Gabriel Church, Windsor. Burial with Military Honors will be in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 6th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
