Alice (Bronson) Hallowell, 95, beloved wife of the late Ellery Hallowell, passed away peacefully Saturday (June 29, 2013) at Avery Heights in Hartford. She was born September 27, 1917 in Hartford, daughter of the late Homer and Harriet (Gernreich) Bronson, and lived in Hartford all of her life. After graduating from Bulkeley High School, Alice was an employee of G. Fox and Co. and later the Travelers Insurance Co. During World War II she was a mechanical draftsman at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford. Alice was a member of the West Hartford Art League and studied under Walter Korder. A gifted artist, she maintained a studio in Newington where she conducted classes. She was also an instructor in the Hartford Adult Education Program. Throughout her career, Alice's specialty was portraits in oils or pastels including commissioned pieces. She leaves a loving sister, Doris B. Cheney of Windsor; three nieces, Carol Bronson of Agawam, MA, Linda Nightingale of Terryville, and Marilyn Siwy and her husband David of South Windsor; and two nephews, Robert W. Bronson of Bristol and Reverend Fred Cheney and his wife Joy of Chester, NH. Alice also leaves many grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert T. Bronson.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of her family.
