Elizabeth (Betty) Petrella, age 89 of Sun City West, AZ formerly of Windsor, passed into the hands of the Lord on Sunday June 30, 2013. Betty was one of eight children born to Salvatore and Candida DiBacco in the small coal mining town of Thomas, West Virginia on May 22, 1924. She began her long and active career as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room at Mount Sinai Hospital in Hartford, Ct., continued as an Industrial Nurse at Allen Manufacturing and retired as Head Nurse for the Town of Windsor School System. Betty is predeceased by her husband Frank who together brought five loving children into this world. She leaves behind her first born son Vincent and his wife Cheryl of Sun City West, AZ, Regina and husband Tom Gibans of Buckeye, AZ, Frank Jr. and wife Linda of Somers, Fred and wife Laura of Northford, and Candida and husband Mark Robinson of North Haven. Betty and Frank have been blessed with nine grandchildren, Regina and Toms children Dr. Lor-Anne Gibans and her husband Dr. Shay Krier, Carl, and Tim and his wife Gina; as well as three great-grandchildren, Lylah, Layna, and Avery, Frank and Linda's boys Christopher and David, Fred and Laura's children, Andrew and Kristin, and Candida and Mark's children, Emily and Nicholas. Betty is survived by one brother, Tony DiBacco of Keyser, WV and is predeceased by five sisters and one brother: Maria, Philomena, Adeline, Page, Assunta, and Carmen.
Betty's life will be a celebrated at Saint Gabriel Roman Catholic Church at 379 Broad Street in Windsor, followed by a peaceful reunion with her husband Frank at the Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery on East Street in Windsor. A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated on Saturday, September 14, 10 a.m., at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St., Windsor. Burial will follow in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Windsor. Donations may be made in her honor to the Resident Council Freedom Inn, 13810 W.Sandridge Drive, Sun City West, AZ, 85375, whose dedicated staff provided compassionate long term care for Betty or Hospice of the Valley , 9720 W. Peoria Avenue, Suite 128 Peoria, AZ, 85345 for making her final weeks in this life comfortable and dignified.
