Chester Lettman, 90, beloved husband of 22 years to Dorothy A. Lettman of Windsor, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 while surrounded by his family. Born in Westmoreland, Jamaica on October 8th, 1922, son of the late Frances Jordaine. Chester came to the Unites States in 1942 in search of greater opportunities. He worked in the tobacco farming industry for L.B. Haas in Windsor for many years and later retired from Aetna where he worked in security and transportation. Chester was well known in the Hartford area as a talented barber who cut generations of heads of hair for his family, friends, nursing home patients and even the public. He was a loving and devoted husband and a caring and generous father who doted on his daughter and granddaughter. Chester had a kind, gentle spirit and love of God that he shared with everyone he knew. "Uncle Chester" and "Pop-Pop," as he was affectionately called by extended family and neighbors will be forever cherished and never forgotten.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, he leaves his daughter, Karlene Abrahams of Windsor; a granddaughter, Darnai Coombs of Windsor; a step-daughter, Sandra Simpson of Windsor; a sister, Winifred Brown of England; seven nieces and nephews; twenty eight grand nieces and nephews; five brother-in-laws (Dessel and Shirley Cotterell, Cedric and Nataki Cotterell, Barrington and Ethelda Cotterell, Rupert and Joye Cotterell, and pre-deceased Morris Jones) and a host of other family and friends in the US, Jamaica, and England. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Manchester Church of the Nazarene, 218 Main Street, Manchester with burial following in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. His family will receive friends on Friday, August 30th from 6-8 p.m. at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095.
