DeFREITAS. Francis J. DeFreitas, 74, of Windsor, beloved husband of Esther (Sheldon) DeFreitas passed away suddenly on Monday, January 20, 2014. Born December 31, 1939 in Hartford, son of the late Joseph and Bella (Mendonsa) DeFreitas, he lived in Bloomfield before moving to Windsor 39 ½ years ago. Before retiring he was a truck driver for Roncari Industries for 35 years and Fillmore Express for 10 years. Francis was a member of the Windsor Elks Lodge #2060, he was a three time winner of the Motor Transportation Assoc. of Connecticut Truck Driving Championship, and he was an avid auto racing fan. Besides his wife, Esther, he is survived by his four children, Wayne DeFreitas and his wife, Lisa of Windsor, Louise Koss and her husband, Michael of Isle LaMotte, VT, Sharon DeFreitas and her husband, Jay Rhodes of Windsor, and Mark DeFreitas of Windsor; four grandchildren, Meghan Rhodes, Albin, Jordan and Nathan DeFreitas; a dear friend who is like a daughter, Theresa Lagro and her husband Andrew; a brother-in-law, Joseph Ferreira; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters, Josephine Cahill and her husband, James, Mary Ferreira, and Sarah Rattell and her husband, James. His family will receive friends Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 2-4 PM at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor followed by services at 4 PM at the funeral home.
